Remembrance, edited
by Robert Bradley of Heanor, Derbyshire, was advertised in Dreamwatch
Bulletin (also known as DWB) and TV Zone magazine.
Remembrance had a
somewhat confusing run, at least in terms of its numbering and titling.
It debuted in March 1989 as a tapezine and ran for four issues, the last
of these being published in August 1991 – these were numbered 1 to 4. A
year later in August 1992, Robert transformed Remembrance into a
A5-sized printed fanzine promising “Doctor Who mainly”, plus
Star Trek and Sherlock Holmes, and the issue numbering was reset,
meaning that the first printed installment was also designated Issue 1.
A second printed issue
followed in November 1992. Robert's subsequent publication, in January
1993, was back to audio, but the Remembrance title was not
mentioned in any advertising, just that it was an “audio tape special”
of Season 7. The audio tape special designation appears to have been an
attempt to differentiate it from the printed fanzine which was, by then,
well established. However, purchasers who ordered and received their
cassette will have noticed that the cover bore the title Remembrance 5,
with ‘Dr. Who – Season Seven’ as a subtitle. Oddly, the words ‘audio
tape special’ do not appear on the cover. The contents included a
character analysis of the Third Doctor, behind-the-scenes information
and reviews of Doctor Who and the Silurians and Inferno.
It was advertised in the January 1993 TV Zone and later the April
1993 edition of Celestial Toyroom, and was followed by two
further print issues in March and September 1993, numbered 3 and 4.
It was then back to audio
cassette for one last time, and again the advertising in Dreamwatch
Bulletin (November 1993), Celestial Toyroom (January 1994)
and TV Zone (March 1994) carried no mention of Remembrance,
declaring this an “audio tape special” once more. The actual product was
titled A Celebration of 30 Years of Time Travel – A Remembrance
Special and carried no issue number, though it was technically the
sixth audio cassette that Robert had produced. Its contents included a
feature looking at press coverage of William Hartnell, reviews of The
Power of the Daleks, Genesis of the Daleks and The Caves
of Androzani, and interviews with Jon Pertwee, Colin Baker, Lynda
Bellingham, Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred. This would prove to be
the final foray into audio for Remembrance, though it did
continue for two further issues in print (Issue 5: The 30th Anniversary
Special and a Doctor Who Fanzine Special). Twelve issues were
produced in all, six on audio cassette and six in print, with the last
printed fanzine being issued in May 1994.
